Everything is covered in builders dust and the house is in chaos. Dust-covered furniture is pushed against the walls in most of the living areas, holes are being cut into the ceiling and there’s big steel boxes and bags of giant silver ducting everywhere. Clumsy contractors leave dusty footprints on the floor. On my dark, lovingly beeswaxed floors. I can only take comfort from the fact that this chaos is part of the process of ducted heating being installed. Cracking eggs to make an omelette and all that. A warm house. Who ever would have thought it.
